9 Slug Coloring Pages to Print for Free!

Wherever a slug goes, it leaves a little trail that shines in the sun, like a silver thread laid down over a leaf. That trail is its slime, and it helps the slug glide without hurting itself, even across the thinnest edge. The best part of these slug coloring pages is that the soft little body is still blank, so the color of each slug is up to you.
We gathered slugs for every taste: a cartoon one with a huge smile, a leopard slug covered in spots, another draped over a mushroom and even one full of patterns to color nice and calmly. You can give them the green and brown of the garden or invent a purple slug, a sky-blue one or a rainbow one: here, you are in charge.
At Coloring Together we picture our gallery as a very long garden where every slug leaves its own colorful trail. When you finish yours, send it to us so we can add it: we would love to watch it inch along among all the others.

Why color slug pictures?
Nobody rushes a slug. It is one of the champions of slowness: it moves with gentle waves of its single foot and takes all the time it needs to get anywhere. The slug is a soft-bodied mollusk, a relative of the snail but without a house on its back, and coloring it is a fun way to look at it up close and get over any squeamishness.
While you choose the color of the body and of each tentacle, your hand loosens up and your breathing settles, just as calm as a slug out for a walk on a rainy night. It is an unhurried little while, where nothing has to come out perfect and you can always start again.
We also spread lots of fun facts about slugs among the drawings, so every page you color leaves you with something new to share. Shall we start coloring, nice and slow?

- Slugs are like snails that lost their house: many still carry a tiny shell hidden under the skin of their back.
- They leave a slime trail that works like a slide: it helps them glide and keeps them from getting hurt, even when they cross the edge of a leaf.
- They have four tentacles. The top two hold the eyes and tell light from shadow; the bottom two are used to smell and feel the way ahead.
- They breathe through a round little hole on one side of the body that opens and closes to take in air. It is called a pneumostome.
- In their mouth they have a tongue with thousands of tiny teeth, called a radula, which they use to scrape leaves like a piece of sandpaper.
- The banana slug from the forests of North America is yellow and can grow up to 25 centimeters. It helps the forest by eating fallen leaves and mushrooms.
- Their slime is so sticky and stretchy that some slugs lower themselves on a thread of slime and dangle in the air.
- They come out mostly at night or when it rains, because they need to stay damp; under strong sun they hide in cool corners.
- Their cousins, the sea slugs, come in brilliant colors; some keep the green from the plants they eat and use the light like a little leaf.
