Drawing of a dolphin leaping over the sea colored with watercolors
Colored by the Coloring Together artists. See gallery.

Dolphins recognize each other with their own whistle, a kind of name that each one invents when it is born. They are curious, playful and always seem to be smiling, which is why they are some of everyone's favorite animals to draw. Here we gathered this collection of dolphin coloring pages so you can spend a happy while, stroke by stroke.

You will find dolphins leaping between the waves, playing with a turtle, forming a heart and even one covered in mandalas. Pick the one you like best and try colored pencils, markers or watercolors: each material gives the sea a different shine.

What matters is not coloring fast, but enjoying every color you choose. When you finish your artwork, at Coloring Together we invite you to share it in our gallery, that corner where drawings from the whole community swim together like a pod of dolphins.

Why color dolphin pictures?

The dolphin is one of the most intelligent animals on the planet, almost as clever as the great apes. It lives in groups, communicates with whistles and clicks, and loves to play by leaping out of the water. Coloring it is a fun way to get closer to this beloved marine mammal.

While you choose the blues of the sea and the shiny gray of its skin, you learn how they live, how they help each other and why sailors are always happy to see them appear. It is learning and relaxing at the same time.

We also added lots of fun facts about dolphins that you may not have known. So you discover new things while doing a calm and creative activity. Shall we start?

  1. Dolphins do not breathe automatically like we do: they have to think about every breath. That is why they sleep with half of their brain awake and one eye open.
  2. Each dolphin has its own whistle that works like its name. The others use it to call it, even when it is far away.
  3. Dolphins use a system called echolocation: they make sounds that bounce off objects, so they know what is around them even when the water is dark.
  4. The bottlenose dolphin, the best known one, can swim faster than 30 kilometers per hour and jump several meters out of the water.
  5. They are mammals, not fish: they breathe air through a hole on their head called a blowhole, and the babies drink milk from their mother.
  6. Dolphins live in groups called pods, where they look after one another. Sometimes they help an injured friend reach the surface to breathe.
  7. The orca, known as the killer whale, is actually the biggest dolphin of all: it can be up to nine meters long!
  8. Dolphins love to play: they surf the waves, chase bubbles and even invent games with seaweed and shells.
  9. They can dive very deep, but they usually come up to breathe every few minutes. Some can stay underwater for more than ten minutes.
  10. There are many species of dolphins, from the tiny Hector's dolphin to the pink dolphin that lives in the Amazon River.
