There are many animals that humans have domesticated, but one of the most popular is the dog. They're therapeutic animals, very affectionate and sociable. They can give love and comfort to anyone who needs it.

Maybe you have one at home, or you want your parents to buy or adopt one, but how much do you know about dogs? Do you think you know enough to take care of one?

They are very interesting animals. They are known for being affectionate and very loyal. Each breed deserves special attention, and they come from very different origins. There are currently many breeds, which vary in size and behavior.

  1. The scientific name for the dog is “Canis lupus familiaris”
  2. In the 10th century, Corgis were in charge of herding cattle, since they're so small they could nip at the cows' ankles.
  3. Dogs can understand up to 250 words. They're very smart!
  4. Bulldogs have a very short snout, which is why they seem to have a flattened head.
  5. Bulldogs are good fighters, because they were originally used for bull-baiting.
  6. Dobermans are direct descendants of German hunting dogs. They're very strong!

  8. Dogs' eyes shine in photos because of a membrane that covers them and lets them see at night.

  44. There are currently several types of Poodles. There are at least three varieties of this breed.
  45. Watch out! Don't give your puppy chocolate. It may be a delicious treat, but it has a component that's toxic to dogs, called theobromine.
