Why color fish pictures?
Fish are marine animals that belong to the group of vertebrate animals. Fish are able to regulate their temperature based on the environment around them, and they're covered in scales. Cool!
They can live in both salt water and fresh water. They're creatures that can be found in seas, rivers, lakes and oceans. They're everywhere! Fish breathe through their gills, their respiratory organs.

Learn while coloring Fish
- Did you know that fish sleep? Even though it doesn't look like it, sometimes they stay still for about 20 or 30 minutes. That's the amount of time they usually sleep.
- The first vertebrates with a bony skeleton on Earth were fish. That's right! They were the first to appear, when Homo Sapiens didn't even exist yet.
- There are around 27,977 species of fish in the world, at least for now, since humans barely know 1% of the ocean.
- Many fish have good eyesight to adapt better to their habitat. They can even see in color. Cool!
- About 2% of fish are hermaphrodites. This means they have both male and female reproductive organs. How wild!
- Some fish don't have scales on their skin, like, for example, the shark. They have smooth, rough skin. Incredible!
- Do you think all fish are like Dory? That's not the case! They do have memory. Depending on the species, they can remember the same predator that attacked them even a year later.
- The rainbowfish with crimson spots can remember escape routes to avoid danger. And it can last even 11 months! Experiments indicate that their cognitive abilities are just as good as those of land animals.
- Fish sleep, but not like we do. They can't dream, so they sleep but at the same time stay in a state of alertness for the presence of predators.
- Human noise affects fish. A study from Leiden University, in the Netherlands, indicates that the effects of noise from oil platforms and the noise from ships confuse the animals and keep them away from the best areas to find food or reproduce.
- There are very rare fish that are capable of producing their own sunscreen. They're the zebrafish! They generate a substance called gadusol, a component that protects them from UV rays.
- Have you seen any fish with ears? That's right! There aren't any. But, even though they don't have ears, they are able to perceive sounds. They have a “lateral line” that lets them detect movement and vibrations in the water.
- 40% of fish species live in fresh water. The remaining 60% live in salt water.
- World Tuna Day is celebrated on May 2nd, a species subjected to overfishing because of its economic and nutritional value.
- The slowest fish is the seahorse. They can even take up to an hour to move more than a meter and a half.
- Freshwater fish are endangered. Around 80 species have gone extinct, 16 of them just in 2020.
- The ocean sunfish is the largest bony fish on the planet. They can be more than 3 meters long and weigh up to 1000 kg.
- There's a fish with an elastic stomach. It's very strange! It's known as the black swallower, and since it has an elastic stomach it can feed on prey much larger than itself.
- There's a fish with teeth very similar to a human's, do you know which one it is? It's the Pacu fish, and its bite is very powerful.
- There are around 70 species of flying fish. That's right! They're fish that can fly, and they're found in all the oceans, especially in tropical and subtropical waters.
- Do you know what the pufferfish inflates itself with? With water! It swallows water very fast to puff up like a balloon. It's a defense mechanism against predators, since it's not a good swimmer, so it grows several times its size when it feels threatened.
- One of the most dangerous fish is the stonefish. It's truly deadly! Its venom can kill a person within hours, and it camouflages itself very well thanks to its rocky appearance.
- The scientific name of the clownfish is “amphiprion ocellaris.” Incredible! These peculiar animals usually live in coral reefs.
- There's a fish that can easily be mistaken for seaweed, that's the sea dragon! Its appearance is unique and it has a very well developed sense of direction.
- The clownfish is actually a very aggressive fish. In their hierarchy, the largest males and females are the ones that mate.
