The letter X holds the twenty-fifth place in the Spanish alphabet, and besides that it is the twentieth consonant of the alphabet. It surely seems like a very peculiar letter to you because its shape reminds us of a tilted cross.

The Latin X comes from the Greek letter known as "chi" or "ji" through the Etruscan alphabet. In medieval Spanish, this letter had various sounds, some of them more sibilant than the ones we know today.
