The letter K is the eleventh letter of the Spanish alphabet and its eighth consonant. Its origin comes from the Proto-Sinaitic alphabet and symbolized the “kaf” or “hand.” In Spanish there aren't many words with the letter k, so the ones we use today come from foreign origins.

Some words are used without changing their spelling and pronunciation, as is the case with the words: rock, kayak, aikido, hockey, among others.

While there are other words that use the letter k, but that were adapted into Spanish, such is the case with the words: karate, kindergarten, poker, kiosk, among others.
