- Swimming was first introduced as a competitive sport in the 1800s, in England, by the National Swimming Society of England. Although for these first competitions the indoor pools of the city of London were used.
- The person with the most world records in swimming is Sara Sjostrom, from Sweden. She broke 4 records in long-course 50 m pools, in the 50 and 100 m freestyle, the non-Olympic 50 m butterfly and the Olympic 100 m butterfly.
