Why color picnic pictures?
A picnic is an activity that involves eating outdoors, usually in a pleasant natural place, like a park. On what occasion do you have a picnic? You can have one to enjoy the nice weather, celebrate a special occasion, spend time with family or friends, or simply relax and have fun.
To have a picnic, you need a basket or a backpack to carry the food and drinks, as well as the necessary utensils, like plates, cups, cutlery, napkins, and so on. It is also a good idea to bring a blanket or a tablecloth to sit on the ground, and a trash bag to collect the waste and leave the place clean.

- The word picnic comes from the French pique-nique, where piquer means "to pick up" or "to peck." The first recorded use of this word was in 1694.
- Picnics became popular in Europe after the French Revolution, when parks and gardens were opened to the public. Before that, only the aristocracy could enjoy these outdoor meals.
- International Picnic Day is celebrated on June 18.
- In 2013 in New York the Guinness record for the longest picnic table in the world was broken. This table measured 320 feet long. Incredible!
- In the 19th century, the women of London created the "Picnic Society," a society or group in which each member had to display their dishes and share them with everyone, in order to show off their culinary skills.
- In Japan, Hanami is a picnic tradition, where people gather to eat and share under the cherry trees.
- On August 19 the "Pan-European Picnic" was held, a political and symbolic event next to the border fence between Hungary and Austria. This was a dividing line between a communist bloc and the West.
- The word "picnic" appeared in English for the first time in a letter from the Gallicized Lord Chesterfield in 1748. He associated it with card games, drinking, and conversation.
- Eating fancy food outdoors was linked to the leisure activity of hunting in the Middle Ages.
- In the 18th century the picnic was reserved for aristocrats. However, in the 19th century its context changed to one related to nature, thanks to writers like Zola or Maupassant. Impressionist artists such as Monet and Manet also contributed.
