  4. Brazil is the only country in South America where, officially, Spanish is not spoken. Portuguese is spoken because the country was under the rule of Portugal for 300 years.
  5. The largest coffee producer in the world is Brazil. In this country they process about a third of all the coffee in the world. Amazing!
  6. Brazil has an island considered one of the most dangerous places in the world. So much so that access to it is forbidden. It is Ilha da Queimada Grande, also known as Snake Island. It is located 35 kilometers off the coast of Sao Paulo.
  7. The origin of the name Brazil comes from a tree called "brazilwood". It is said that the Europeans used this tree as an intense red dye, highly valued in the textile industry. This was the first product commercially exploited in Brazil.
  8. The first capital of Brazil was Salvador, between 1549 and 1763. Then it was transferred to Rio de Janeiro until 1960, and then, in 1960 it was decided that Brasilia would be the capital of the country.
  9. Brazil was the last country in the Americas to abolish slavery. It was not abolished until 1888. Incredible!
  10. Brazil is home to the largest Japanese community in the world. It is estimated that today Brazil has more than 1.5 million citizens of Japanese origin.
  11. Do you know how many times Brazil has won the soccer World Cup? A total of five times! Plus, the Brazil national team is the only one that has attended every World Cup.
  12. The largest beach in the world is found in Brazil. It is Praia do Cassino, in Rio Grande. It is about 250 km long and reaches the border with Uruguay. Amazing!
  13. The largest river in the world is found in Brazil. It is the Amazon River. In this river is found a fifth of all the fresh water on the planet.
  14. The samba was brought to Brazil through the African Bantu tribes. These tribes came from Angola and had this form of dance until they were brought to the Americas as slaves. It is said that in its origins it was danced to invoke the gods.
  15. In Brazil is found a third of the rainforests on the planet, and therefore, it has the largest number of plants and animals in the world. Incredible!
