- Volleyball was invented by the American William G. Morgan on February 9, 1895.
- Some of the other names by which volleyball is known around the world are voleibol, volibol, voley, balonvolea and volleyball.
- The largest beach volleyball tournament in the world was held on July 12, 2014 in Toronto, Canada. It was the “Heatwave for SickKids Beach Volleyball Tournament”, in which 968 players took part.
- Did you know that the International Volleyball Federation is the body in charge of regulating the rules of competitive volleyball worldwide? They also organize and manage some of the most important volleyball events and competitions in the world.
- The world record for “most consecutive volleyball passes” is held by the Dutch D.S.V.V. «Punch”; who on October 2, 2015 managed to make 127 successful consecutive passes.
- “Los Changos de Naranjito” are the team that has won the most national volleyball championships. Between 1958 and 2004 they managed to win 20 championships of the Puerto Rican Men's Volleyball League.
- The largest beach volleyball championship in the world was achieved by the Dutch Volleyball Federation on June 27, 2015, in Scheveningen, Netherlands. This had 2,355 players present. Incredible!
- The largest volleyball tournament in the world was achieved in June 2012 by “Amateur Athletic Union of the US, Inc.” in Florida, United States. This had 2,631 participants and lasted a little over a week.
- The team that has won the most men's volleyball championships in all of history is the “USSR Men´s Volleyball Team”; since between 1949 and 1982 it managed to win six world championships.
- The team that has won the most women's volleyball championships in all of history is the “USSR Women´s Volleyball Team”; since between 1952 and 1990 it managed to win five world championships.
- Did you know that volleyball has belonged to the Olympic sports since the Tokyo Olympic Games of 1964?
- The longest indoor volleyball marathon of all time had a duration of 101 hours. It was achieved in January 2017 by “SVU Volleybal”, in Amstelveen, Netherlands.
- The longest outdoor volleyball marathon of all time had a duration of 24 hours, 27 minutes and 44 seconds. It was Antonio Procacci and Molisesorriso who carried it out in August 2018 in a public square in Campobasso, Italy.
- The players who have won the most Olympic gold medals in volleyball have been the Cuban Ana Ibis Fernandez and the American Kerri Lee Walsh Jennings. Each one has three gold medals to her name, in addition to a bronze medal.
- Did you know that beach volleyball has been part of the Olympic sports since the Atlanta Olympic Games of 1996?
