- Did you know that at the Summer Olympic Games you can compete in three different types of gymnastics? These are artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics.
- The German Johanna Quaas was born in November 1925. At 86 years old she was still practicing gymnastics, a merit that earned her certification in 2012 by Guinness World Records as “the oldest gymnast in the world”.
- The oldest Olympic gymnast is the Uzbek Oksana Chusovitina. She holds this title because she was 41 years and 56 days old when she took part in the Rio Olympic Games of 2016.
- The youngest gymnast to take part in an international competition was Pasakevi Voula Kouna. She was 9 years and 9 months old when she debuted at the Balkan Games of 1981, in Serra, Greece.
- The largest gymnastic exhibition of all time took place on August 14, 2007 at the May Day Stadium, in North Korea. The event had 100,090 gymnasts and was organized by the “Arirang” State Preparation Committee.
- The youngest women's gymnastics world champion in history is the Romanian Aurelia Dobre. She won the women's world title on October 23, 1987 in Rotterdam, Netherlands; when she was only 14 years and 11 months old.
- The youngest men's gymnastics world champion in history is the Russian Dmitriy Bilozerchev. He won the men's all-around title on October 28, 1983, in Budapest, Hungary; when he was only 16 years and 10 months old.
- The gymnast with the most Olympic medals won is the Ukrainian Larisa Latynina. Between 1956 and 1964 she won 18 Olympic medals: 9 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. Truly impressive!
- On August 11, 2019 the American Simone Biles became the first woman to perform a triple-double vault in a gymnastics competition. The event was the United States National Gymnastics Championship, held in Kansas City, Missouri.
- The gymnast who has appeared in the most consecutive Olympics is the Uzbek Oksana Chusovitina. She took part in each of the eight Olympics that were held between 1992 and 2020.
- The Russian Nikolay Andrianov is the male gymnast who has won the most Olympic medals in history. Between 1972 and 1980 he managed to accumulate a total of 15 Olympic medals. Incredible!
- Did you know that the first gymnast to receive a perfect score of 10.00 points was the Romanian Nadia Comaneci? It happened at the Montreal Olympic Games of 1976, when she was only 14 years old. Awesome!
- Did you know that in November 2021 the British gymnast Ashley Watson managed to jump between two bars that were separated by a distance of 6 meters? Thanks to his impressive feat he received a certificate from Guinness World Records.
- The American Simone Biles is the gymnast who has won the most gold medals at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championship. Between 2013 and 2019 she managed to accumulate a total of 19 gold medals. Incredible!
- Did you know that the International Gymnastics Federation is the body in charge of regulating the rules of competitive gymnastics worldwide? They also collaborate in planning many of the most important gymnastics competitions and events in the world.
- Did you know that artistic gymnastics has been part of the Olympic sports since the Athens Olympic Games of 1896? At first it was a discipline practiced only by men.
- Did you know that rhythmic gymnastics has been part of the Olympic sports since the Los Angeles Olympic Games of 1984?
- Did you know that the Amsterdam Olympic Games of 1928 were the first with a women's gymnastics competition? Before this, Olympic gymnastics was only practiced by men.
- The countries with the most Olympic medals in gymnastics are the Soviet Union, the United States, Japan, Romania and China.
