Emiliano Zapata was a Mexican farmer and soldier considered one of the heroes of the Mexican Revolution. Without a doubt, his participation in it made him a symbol for all of Latin America.

This historical figure was a driving force in social struggles, he always sought equal rights, freedom and above all, social democracy. At an early age, Emiliano had already led an uprising in the city of Yautepec, and in 1906 he defended the lands of some farmers against the harassment of big landowners.

  1. Emiliano Zapata was born on August 8, 1879 in Anenecuilco, Morelos, Mexico.
  2. Emiliano Zapata attended elementary school, but couldn't keep studying because of his family's poverty.
  3. Emiliano's mother died when he was 16 years old, and 11 months later his father passed away.
  4. In 1906, Emiliano Zapata joined the peasant movement that fought for agrarian reform.
  5. In 1910, Emiliano Zapata joined the Mexican Revolution, fighting for the rights of farmers and for agrarian reform.
  6. Emiliano Zapata was assassinated on April 10, 1919 at the Hacienda de Chinameca, Morelos, Mexico.
  7. For 9 years Emiliano led the Liberation Army of the South, fighting for social justice, equality, democracy, freedom and respect for indigenous communities.
  8. Zapata was missing the little finger of his right hand. It's said that he lost it in a charreada.
  9. It's said that Emiliano Zapata had around 17 children, all from various romances.
  10. It wasn't until 1931 that Emiliano was recognized as a national hero, and his name was engraved in gold on the wall of the Plenary Hall of the Chamber of Deputies.
