Why color bees pictures?

Bees are one of the most important animals on the planet, do you know why? They are the pollinator insects par excellence, that's why their role is essential to keep the natural balance and to keep many plant species alive.

We can find bees in every place where there are plants, so they inhabit almost every place in the world, except Antarctica.

They are insects that don't live for very long, in fact, they have an average lifespan of about 5 years. But even so, they are one of the oldest insects on the planet. In fact, it's believed they have inhabited the planet for about 30 million years.

Learn while coloring Bees

  1. The United Nations declared May 20 of each year as World Bee Day.
  2. Bees have a really good sense of smell! This is because each one has 170 olfactory receptors.
  3. Bees are able to see all colors except one: red, but even so, they can perceive ultraviolet colors, which are invisible to our eyes. Awesome!
  4. Daisies are the perfect flowers for bees, because since they bloom almost all year round, they let them pollinate more often and without stopping.
  5. The scientific name for bees is Anthophila, a name that comes from the Greek “anthos” (flower) and “philos” (to like). That is to say it means “flower lovers.”
  6. Almost 20,000 species of bees are currently known, some with very similar traits and habits.
  7. Only 7 of the 20,000 bee species produce honey. That's very few for such a big job!
  8. A honeybee can visit up to about 7,000 flowers a day. Incredible! And around 4 million visits are needed to be able to produce a kilo of honey.
  9. Bees are responsible for 80% of crop pollination worldwide. Incredible!
  10. The queen bee is in charge of laying all the eggs in a colony. She usually lays up to 2,500 eggs a day per season. Incredible!
  11. A worker bee egg takes around 21 days to hatch and become an adult bee.
  12. In Mexico you can find 1,805 species of bees, out of the 20,000 that exist.
  13. The queen bee can live 5 to 6 years, and when she dies, the female workers choose larvae less than 3 days old, and give them a special food called “royal jelly,” until one grows and becomes the new queen.
  14. Do you know how one bee tells another that it found food? With a dance!
  15. Bees die when they bury their stinger in a living being because in their stinger they have part of their digestive tract, muscle and nerves. Left without their stinger, they die.
  16. Honeybees are excellent fliers. They can reach a speed of about 25 km per hour. And they can beat their wings 200 times per second!
  17. A bee colony can have between 15,000 and 80,000 bees, depending on the climate and habitat.
  18. A bee's body usually measures between 2 mm and 4 cm, depending on the species.
  19. Parasitic bees are a type of bee that lay their eggs in the nests of other bees. Like cuckoos!
  20. Bumblebees are a type of bee, and they are the first to come out of hibernation. In fact, they begin their pollination activities at temperatures around 5° above zero.
