- The first month of the year is January and its name comes from the Roman god Janus, the god of beginnings and endings.

- April comes from the Latin word "aperire", which means "to open", since in this month the flowers begin to bloom.
- The last 4 months of the year keep the name that designated their position in the first calendar that existed. For example: September is the seventh, and October the eighth.
- The month of May is named after the Roman goddess Maia, an ancient goddess of fertility.
- June is named after the Roman god Juno, the goddess of marriage, wife of Jupiter.
- July is named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar, who was born that same month. Did you know that?
- August is named after the Roman emperor Augustus, in honor of the month in which he defeated Mark Antony and Cleopatra.
- The validity of the Julian calendar came to an end in 1582, when Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar.
- September, October, November, and December mean "seventh", "eighth", "ninth", and "tenth" respectively in Latin, because they were originally the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth month of the year, respectively, in the ancient Roman calendar.
- In September, spring begins in the southern hemisphere and autumn in the northern hemisphere.
- The Babylonian calendar was lunar: each month began with the first appearance of the crescent moon and lasted 29 or 30 days. So it would coincide with the solar year, every now and then they added an extra month. Very ingenious!
