- One of the most popular stories about witches is told in the Bible, in the story of King Saul who consults the "Witch of Endor".
- In Greek mythology, Circe is a kind of witch who is capable of turning her enemies into pigs. It really was better not to mess with her!
- Goya was a very renowned artist who was inspired by witches to create his most emblematic works. He painted 6 paintings of witchcraft at the end of the 18th century for the cabinet of the Duchess of Osuna. Incredible!
- Albrecht Dürer was a renowned painter who portrayed witches in his works. He painted pieces like "The Four Witches" (1497) or "Witch Riding a Goat Backwards" (1500 approx.). Without a doubt quite an artist!
- Some theories indicate that the artists of the Renaissance drew their image of witches from the figure of Envy by Mantegna, created during the Renaissance. That's where the idea of witches as old harpies comes from.
- By the 18th century witches were no longer considered dangerous, quite the opposite! It was understood that this was the superstitious ideas of peasants.
- Actually, witches were not always burned at the stake. That's the most popular image, but the ones who were considered guilty were sentenced to the gallows and hanged.
- There were not only witches, but also warlocks. Although most were women, men and children were also killed under the accusation of being witches or sorcerers.
- The witch hunt was quite a phenomenon that occurred in Europe and America between the 15th and the 17th centuries, in which tens of thousands of people died, especially women. Incredible!
- The Germanic peoples, before being converted to Christianity, knew of the burning of magicians who performed evil enchantments. After their conversion, in the year 785, they were against the belief in witches and their persecution.
- In Hungary witches are referred to as "strigis" (from Latin) or "striges".
- Actually, the women who were accused of witchcraft were accused without any proof. The "proof" was appearances in dreams or body marks that most of the time turned out to be birthmarks.
- Witches were generally sexually abused, since it was believed that they made tattoos or had strange marks on their bodies. To confirm it, men took advantage of them, arguing that they had to "examine them in private" in search of marks.

- Throughout the entire witch hunt in Europe it's estimated that between 40,000 and 60,000 people died, and Germany was the country with the most cases. In England, moreover, witches were not burned: they were hanged.
- It's believed that the popular pointed hat that witches wear became a symbol of them when Pope Innocent III ordered that Jews wear pointed capes in the year 1215, which is why these people were accused of witchcraft.
- Witches exist in our present day! Or something like that. Witchcraft is practiced today. The most widespread is Wicca. They take charge of holding gatherings called sabbats and esbats.
- In February of 1692 the community of Salem was in turmoil over a series of strange events that were associated with witchcraft. As a result, around 18 people were hanged, one died under torture, and more than 150 were imprisoned.
- In Salem 3 girls were found naked and dancing in the forest, while Tituba, a slave, stirred a liquid inside a cauldron she had set over the fire. From those events the witch hunt in Salem began, also known as the Salem Trials.
