Vampires are associated with certain beliefs about supernatural creatures that feed on the life energy of other living beings. Although these kinds of creatures have been talked about since 4,000 BC, it was from the 18th century onward that the word vampire began to be used.

  8. Many centuries ago it was believed that vampires were carriers of diseases and that these could be wiped out by killing the supposed vampires. That is why among the victims of plagues, bodies with stakes in the chest have been found.
  9. Although the concept of undead creatures that fed on the vitality of other living beings has existed for many centuries, it was in the 18th century that the word vampire began to be used thanks to the poem "The Vampyre of the Fens" in 1734.
