Without a doubt, dragons are very dangerous fantastical creatures, but who says they can't be tamed? Out there they tell stories of families with the power of fire, capable of having domesticated dragons. Impossible it is not!

Why color dragons pictures?

Dragons are very popular mythological creatures, that appear in various cultures with different meanings and symbolisms. Generally, there are two types of dragons, can you guess which ones they are?

There are the European dragons, which are represented in some fantasy movies as terrible flying creatures that breathe fire. On the other hand, there are the Eastern dragons, of Chinese origin, and other Asian countries.

Without a doubt dragons have been creatures that have given rise to very popular stories, legends, and poems, that's why we want you to learn much more about them. How? With the fun facts we added above the dragon images to color. Go read them! You'll surely learn a lot.

  1. It's said that the wings of dragons are similar to those of birds of prey or those of bats.
  2. The Chinese dragon has characteristics of nine different animals, can you guess which ones they are? It has the neck of a snake, the head of a camel, the horns of a deer, the ears of a cow, the abdomen of a mussel, the scales of a fish, the claws of a tiger and an eagle, and the eyes of a cat.
  3. In Chinese culture, red dragons are associated with good luck, fire, the heart, and passion. Besides, they symbolize summer. How cool!
  4. It was during the Carolingian era that the image of a winged dragon that breathed fire was introduced. Incredible!
  5. In the Middle Ages, the Christian church associated the dragon with the incarnation of the devil.
  6. Dragons appear in the Bible. That's right! In some verses they are described as demons, but in others they are described as a ferocious animal, just like lions or wolves.
  7. In the High Middle Ages, dragons represented the fight against evil and deadly sin.
  8. In China, yellow dragons are the most important and revered, since they are associated with the emperor, and are a symbol of wealth, wisdom, and compassion.
  9. According to European culture, dragons hid a ton of treasures in their lairs. This was usually a cave, associated with a terrible curse.
  10. In the Viking era, the Vikings used a ton of ornaments that were shaped like dragons. Incredible!
  11. In China, black dragons are associated with winter, power, and storms. Incredible!
  12. In Norse mythology dragons are described as great serpents that dwell in different places of the world.
  13. In some cultures dragons symbolize different gods that are associated with water, rain, rivers, lakes, or bays.
  14. The word “dragon” comes from the Greek “drakon” which means “serpent” or “dragon”. Besides, it derives from a Greek verb that means “to stare”, hence the allusion that dragons had the power to hypnotize.
  15. In Chinese culture, white dragons are associated with autumn. But that's not all! They are an omen of death. How scary!
  16. Did you know that in the era of the Crusades you could buy parts of a dragon? That's right! It's said that in the markets of Europe you could buy dragon remains, which were actually from crocodiles of Arabia or Egypt.
  17. Dragons are very different across all cultures. It's true that they share similar features, like claws or scaly skin, but in some cultures they are small, some can fly and others can't; in others they look more like serpents and their colors are very different.
  18. In China, when a dragon is green or blue, it symbolizes spring, growth, health, and prosperity. Incredible!
  19. “The feathered serpent”, better known as Quetzalcoatl, is a Mesoamerican god considered the main one of the pre-Hispanic pantheon, and his representations in codices, sculptures, and pyramids closely resemble an Eastern dragon.
  20. The Vikings carved dragons on their ships, do you know the reason? They did it to scare the spirits that guarded the coasts, and so get closer to invade and plunder. Amazing!
  21. Unlike European dragons that breathe fire, Chinese dragons breathe clouds. Clouds! That's incredible.
  22. The Chinese didn't think dragons were evil creatures, or that they caused catastrophes. Quite the opposite! For them they are benevolent, powerful, and wise creatures.
  23. In the Sumerian civilization, representations of dragons have been found, usually on cylinder seals. They all date from the Uruk period.
  24. According to Chinese mythology, some dragons live in the sky, like the celestial dragon. And others, like the coiled one, live in the sea.
