Claude Monet was a French Impressionist painter born in 1840 in Paris. He is known for his paintings of landscapes, gardens and urban scenes, in which he used light and color to create unique atmospheres.
Monet began his artistic career in the 1860s and became one of the leaders of the Impressionist movement, which sought to capture the essence of a moment through light and color
Throughout his career, Monet painted a series of iconic works, such as "Impression, Sunrise" and "Water Lilies", which are found in museum collections all over the world.

- Claude Monet was born in Paris, but grew up in Le Havre, where his father had a grocery store. His aunt taught him to paint as a hobby.
- Before dedicating himself to landscapes, Monet was a successful caricaturist who sold his drawings at the age of 15.
- Monet's painting called "Impression, Sunrise", which he painted in 1872, gave the Impressionist movement its name, although it was the object of mockery and criticism for its style.
- Monet liked to paint the same subject at different times of day or seasons of the year, to capture the variation of light and color. He did so with the cliffs of Étretat, the Japanese bridge or the water lilies.
- In 1890, Claude Monet bought a property in Giverny, where he created his famous garden with exotic plants and ponds inspired by Japanese art. There he painted nearly two hundred paintings of water lilies. Incredible!
- The Salon des Refusés, an alternative exhibition created in 1863 by order of Emperor Napoleon III, displayed the works of young innovative artists that the official salon had rejected. Years later, Monet and his friends organized their own Impressionist exhibitions.
- Monet was friends with other great painters such as Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley or Cézanne. Together they formed the group of the Impressionists and influenced one another.
- In 1912 Monet was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes, which affected his perception of color and made him paint in redder, blurrier tones. He had surgery in 1923 and used tinted glasses to correct his vision.
- Monet donated 22 water lily paintings to the French government as a tribute to those who fell in the First World War. These paintings are exhibited at the Orangerie Museum in Paris.
- Monet died on December 5, 1926 at the age of 86 from lung cancer. He was buried in the Giverny cemetery next to his second wife Alice.
