Dinosaurs ruled the earth more than 250 million years ago. They lived all over the planet and reproduced by laying between 20 and 40 eggs in their nests. They organized themselves into groups to protect their future young from predators.

After baby dinosaurs were born, they had accelerated growth due to their high metabolism, and while they learned to get their own food, the parents fed them through a process very similar to that of birds.

  1. Baby dinosaurs hatched from eggs that measured 30 to 60 centimeters, and were laid in nests that they covered with leaves and branches to keep predators away.
  2. It is believed that baby dinosaurs fed in a way similar to birds. The parents produced a substance similar to milk from the glands of the crop, which they used to feed their young through the mouth.
  3. At first it was thought that baby dinosaurs grew slowly like reptiles, but due to the growth lines (like those of trees) and other features found in the bones, it was discovered that they actually grew quite fast.
