Why color aquatic dinosaurs pictures?

Just as there were land dinosaurs, like the Triceratops or the Tyrannosaurus, there were also aquatic ones. Enormous creatures that crossed the seas from end to end.

One of them was the Ichthyosaur, inhabitant of the Cretaceous, about 110 million years ago. They looked a lot like dolphins! In addition, they lived alongside other marine animals, like prehistoric cetaceans, testudines or placodonts.

There were both aquatic carnivores and omnivores, and each one of them varied in shape and size. Would you like to learn more about these creatures? Come with us and learn with the aquatic dinosaur coloring pages!

Above each one we have attached very interesting fun facts so you can learn while painting a very interesting animal at Coloring Together. Ready to start? Let's take a tour through the Mesozoic, the Jurassic and the Cretaceous!

  1. Actually, what we know as "marine dinosaurs" are nothing more than reptiles that dominated the seas in the Mesozoic era.
  2. The Mosasaurs were a group of lizards that were the main marine predators during the Cretaceous. By that time, the Ichthyosaurs had already gone extinct, but the Plesiosaurs still swam alongside them.
  3. Dinosaurs did not manage to thrive or adapt to the marine environment, so as such marine dinosaurs did not exist.
  4. The Plesiosaurs were enormous marine reptiles: some measured about 15 meters in length. They lived from the Jurassic until the end of the Cretaceous, when they went extinct along with the dinosaurs.
  5. The Plesiosaurs were animals similar to turtles, but with a more elongated appearance. In addition, they did not have a shell. They ate mollusks, like the extinct ammonites and belemnites.
  6. The main difference between dinosaurs and reptiles is the position of the legs. Reptiles have them positioned to the sides, and being marine they evolved into fins. Dinosaurs have legs beneath the body.
  7. Marine reptiles and dinosaurs, although they were contemporary species, do not belong to the same group of animals.
  8. Dinosaurs were endothermic animals, while reptiles, on the other hand, were ectotherms.
  9. One of the most interesting marine reptiles was the Ichthyosaur. It was very similar to today's dolphins! They had a long snout, four pairs of fins, and measured around 4 meters long.
  10. The Ichthyosaurs were animals that used to hunt in the depths of the ocean, and their favorite prey were fish and squid.
