Christmas trees are a characteristic element of the Christmas holidays. It consists of a pine tree decorated with ornaments and lights, and it symbolizes love for God and for the baby Jesus. It is also considered the “tree of life.”

The tradition of decorating trees at Christmas has its origin in Germany and Scandinavia, in the 15th and 17th centuries. Quite a long time ago, right? As for its decoration, it usually has a star placed at the top and a ton of ornaments surrounding it.

  1. It is said that the origin of the Christmas tree comes from the Celtic culture, in Europe, who used trees to represent their gods.
  2. On December 25, the Celts celebrated the birth of Frey, the god of rain and fertility. The way they celebrated it was by decorating a tree.
  3. In Poland, Christmas trees are not set up from the floor, but from the ceiling! This tradition comes from medieval times, when a monk explained the Holy Trinity to the pagans with the help of an upside-down tree.

  5. In the year 1510, there was a tradition of decorating the Christmas tree, decorating it and then dancing around it. At the end, it was set on fire until it was completely consumed.

  16. The smallest Christmas tree in the world was created by Maura Willems, a student of applied physics. She made it by removing 51 atoms from a perfect crystal lattice, and as a result she got a tiny Christmas tree.
