The exact date of when the violin appeared isn't known, but it's estimated to have appeared around the 16th century near Milan, Italy. There are other theories, but none clearly establishes its origin.
In the second half of the 16th century it appeared with its present-day features, that is, since then the violin already existed just as we know it today.
