Why color igloo images?

An igloo is a house built with blocks of snow. Contrary to what people think, its interior is quite spacious and cozy, and compared to the temperature outside, you could even say it is warm.

For millennia, igloos have allowed many people to survive. Their thick snow walls block the wind currents and their easy construction makes it possible for anyone who needs immediate shelter to get out of trouble.

When you are in a tundra, the materials to build homes are quite scarce. It is great to think that the Eskimos and Inuit tribes knew how to take advantage of the available resources to make themselves comfortable homes. This is a clear demonstration that with any kind of materials you can make incredible things!

At Coloring Together we love igloos, and since we know you do too, we wanted to make some fun facts available to you. These will let you learn a ton of new things about these fascinating snow dwellings while you have a lot of fun coloring. Does it not seem great to you?

We are almost ready to begin! All you need to do is print on white sheets the igloo coloring pages you liked best and run to grab your art materials. Once this is done, there is no time to lose. Let's color!

  1. Did you know that the largest igloo in the world was built by the company Iglu-Dorf in Switzerland? It was located near the Zermatt station and had a diameter of 19 meters and a height of 13 meters. For its construction, 1387 blocks of snow weighing 40 kilograms each were needed!
  2. Have you wondered why the doors of igloos are so small and elongated? Well, for centuries it has been proven that if they are built with this size and shape, it prevents the heat inside the igloo from dissipating.
  3. The word "igloo" comes from the Inuit languages and translates into Spanish as "house".
  4. Igloos originate from the Arctic region. There is a record that the Eskimos who lived more than 5000 years ago in what is now Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Russia, built igloos to shelter themselves from the low ambient temperatures.
  5. Did you know that a properly built igloo can raise the temperature inside it by up to 40°C compared to the temperature outside? This means that if the ambient temperature is -30°C, inside that igloo the temperature will be 10°C.
  6. According to members of the Inuit groups, the best snow to build igloos is "hard snow" or "Pugaq". This snow is characterized by being very dry and is produced thanks to the strong winds that stir it up from the snowy ground.
  7. Igloos usually have a dome shape because it does not require temporary support structures during construction. Also, this shape allows the heat inside to be conserved without harming the airflow. Simply great!
  8. Did you know that nowadays, only a few Inuit communities still use igloos as permanent homes? Most igloos are built to shelter hunters and polar explorers for just a couple of days.
  9. There are hotels that are made entirely of snow and ice! "Icehotel 365", "Iglu-Dorf" and "The SnowCastle of Kemi" are some examples of igloo hotels that combine all the comforts of a conventional hotel with the grace and charm of an igloo. Would you not like to rest in one of their snowy suites?
  10. As incredible as it seems, inside an igloo you can light a campfire! If the igloo is spacious enough and is correctly built, the heat of the fire will do nothing more than melt its walls a little. Soon, these will freeze again and will even make the igloo more resistant.
