Pinocchio is a very popular story that we all know thanks to its many film adaptations. This time at Coloring Together we want to teach you a few things about this peculiar character.

Pinocchio is a story written by the Italian Carlo Collodi, who began publishing his work in an Italian newspaper between 1882 and 1883. In 1940 Pinocchio received an animated film adaptation by Walt Disney, very different from the original work.

The Pinocchio film made by Disney is considered "culturally important" and is being preserved by the United States Film Registry. Interesting, do you not think?

  1. The author of the original work of Pinocchio was Carlo Collodi. This was a character from a series of newspapers published in 1883.
  2. Pinocchio's full name is "Pinocchio" and it derives from the Italian "pino" which means pine and "occhio" which means eye.
  3. It took 12 different artists and 18 months of work to achieve the definitive look of the Pinocchio character.
  4. Milt Kahl, one of Disney's Nine Old Men and one of the most renowned animators at the company, was the one who came up with the idea of drawing Pinocchio as a human boy with puppet joints.
  5. Cliff Edwards, an American voice actor and singer, auditioned to be the voice of Pinocchio, however, since he was 43 years old he ended up voicing Jiminy Cricket.
  6. The voice of Pinocchio's Blue Fairy was provided by Evelyn Venable, a very well-known actress. In addition, she was the model for the initial logo of Columbia Pictures. Incredible!
  7. In the original story, Pinocchio dies at the hands of the Fox and the Cat, when they hang him on a large oak to steal his gold coins. However, the fans of the series convinced Collodi, the author, to continue the story.
  8. In the original work, Jiminy Cricket dies because of Pinocchio, when he throws a wooden hammer at the cricket that hits him in the head. His next appearances were in the form of a spirit.
  9. Pinocchio was the first Disney film to win an Oscar for Best Original Song for "When you wish upon a star" in 1940.
  10. The 1940 Pinocchio film was Disney's second feature film, after "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
