  1. The Netherlands is the largest producer of tulips in the world. It grows and exports almost three billion bulbs every year.
  2. Do you know the origin of the word tulip? These flowers come from Iran and Afghanistan, and they were placed as decorations on turbans, which is where the name "tulip" comes from.
  3. Tulips are very varied flowers! There are about 75 to 150 wild species, but that is not all! From them, more than 3,000 cultivated varieties have been created by gardeners.
  4. Tulips have a variety of meanings that change according to their color. Red tulips represent true love, and white ones mean "I am sorry".
  5. At the beginning of the 17th century tulips became very famous in the Netherlands. They became very expensive in a short time, and people bought them in large quantities.
  6. Even though there are tons of tulips in many colors, blue and black tulips do not exist.
  7. Black tulips do not exist! Such a shame, right? The one that comes closest is "Queen of Night", but it is not entirely black.
  8. Tulips are categorized into 15 different groups. That is quite a few! This categorization helps others search for tulips more efficiently, according to the shape of the flower and its blooming period.
  9. There are tulips that bloom every year and multiply on their own. Is not that amazing? These are known as botanical tulips or dwarf tulips since they stay small.
  10. Tulip flowers wilt quickly. They can last up to two weeks in cold climates, but if it is a very warm area they will last less.
  11. Do you know where tulips come from? They are native to Central Asia, and centuries later they became very beloved in the Ottoman Empire, where they came to be one of its most representative flowers.
  12. Tulips are flowers that usually have between 2 and 6 leaves. Although some species have had a maximum of 12. That is quite a few!
