- As a boy he started playing for Los Cebollitas, the kids' team of Argentinos Juniors. He juggled the ball so well that he appeared on television.
- His favorite foot was his left. With that magical left foot he made dribbles and goals that seemed impossible.
- He was the captain of Argentina that won the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. It is one of the happiest moments in Argentine football.
- In that World Cup he scored the famous Goal of the Century against England: he dribbled past almost the whole rival team from the middle of the pitch.
- He shone at Napoli in Italy, where he won two league titles. People loved him so much that the club retired the number 10 shirt.
- He also played for Boca Juniors, Barcelona and Argentinos Juniors, among other clubs. He left his mark everywhere.
- His best known nicknames were El Pelusa, for his curly hair, and D10S, a play on words with the number 10.
