  1. Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643, in Woolsthorpe, England.
  2. Among Newton's discoveries are: the color spectrum when light passes through a prism; the argument that light is made up of particles; the law of cooling (how a body loses heat over time); and his studies on the speed of sound in air.
  3. Isaac Newton's father died three months before his birth, and his mother remarried when he was three years old.
  4. Newton was very protective of his research, since he feared that other scientists would steal it and take away his credit.
  5. In 1687, Isaac Newton published his most famous work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), in which he described his laws of motion and gravitation.
  6. In 1703, Isaac Newton was elected president of the Royal Society and was knighted by Queen Anne of Great Britain.
  7. Newton was a great artist. Did you know that? Well, actually he liked to draw, so much so that in his room the walls and ceilings were colored.
  8. Thanks to Newton's discoveries about light and the motion of the planets, the first flights to the Moon could be carried out.
  9. Isaac Newton died at 84 years of age, on March 20, 1727. He was buried in Westminster Abbey.
  10. Newton was a brilliant student and was admitted to Trinity College at the University of Cambridge in 1661. However, he was forced to leave Cambridge in 1665 due to the Great Plague.
