Hephaestus took revenge on Hera for throwing him into the sea after his birth, and he did so by sending her a magical golden throne as a gift. When she sat on it, she got trapped and could not get up. To free her, they had to grant Hephaestus the hand of Aphrodite and his place on Olympus.
