The kings Theseus and Pirithous set out to abduct Helen (daughter of Zeus) and Persephone (wife of Hades). Both went to the underworld, where they were captured by Hades, who already knew of their plans. And although Theseus was rescued by Heracles, Pirithous remained as punishment for trying to abduct the wife of a god.
